Iceland’s Southern Coast Engagement Session: Liz and Greg

This past June, we had the huge honor of being a part of Liz and Greg’s wedding in Iceland. Obviously from a photographer’s standpoint this is beyond exciting because…. ICELAND! From a human perspective though, we were just so stinking happy to be trusted on this level and to be invited in with such an important event, just like every single wedding we are able to do.

Liz and Greg invited us along with them for an adventurous engagement session the day before their wedding. We love that idea because we definitely wanted to be able to take photos in Iceland’s epic landscapes and have the time it takes to do so. Additionally, since their wedding was to be so intimate and small (see next week’s blog post), it was very important that we took the edge off a little bit and hung out with one another before this wedding itself.

We hopped in their rental car and drove from Reykjavik to Vik, starting the session in a smaller black sand beach, scampering around in little caves and along the shore. Afterwards, we headed up to Dyrhólaey for a little cliffside romance. I have to say that my healthy (but not phobic) fear of heights was kicking in a lot here. We kept telling them to stay away from the edge and only do what they felt comfortable doing, letting them choose their own adventure. Let me tell you… they are a hell of a lot braver than me. Even the photos make me feel a little nervous. Whew.

Over the course of many hours we also stopped by a lupine field, another lupine field, a couple of friendly horses, and some more horses. No trip to Iceland would be complete without a visit to a waterfall so we stopped by the ever famous (and for a good rainbow-y reason) Skógafoss! Liz was a bit skeptical as we pulled up to a parking lot TEAMING with tour busses and matching rental cars but it. was. worth. it. It always is.

We headed back to our respective AirBnb’s for some recuperation for the next day’s adventure: a wedding!

Wolfes Neck State Park Engagement Session: Eliza and Ian

Look at these two cute people! Eliza and Ian met us at Wolfes Neck State Park for the beginning of their engagement session and we were pretty stoked about that. We have been there for fun ourselves but we had not yet photographed a couple there. The light is lovely and there is a beautiful calm oceanside that we definitely worked with these two lovies. Ian is in the Coast Guard Reserves here in Portland so he wanted to have some photos taken in his uniform. For those we all headed down to Bug Light Park, where there are more great Maine oceanside views and of course the precious Bug Light Lighthouse. Eliza has such a kind and sweet vibe and Ian is so into her, smiling almost the entire two hours. What a treat right?!

Two Lights State Park Engagement Session: George and Bryson

When George and Bryson pulled up to the state park we knew it was a great fit before they got out of the car… because we have the exact same car! We even mailed them a matching bumper sticker to the one we have on our car because we are already besties. Clearly. Once they actually got out of the car our suspicions were confirmed. A fun engagement session was in our future.

The four of us just explored Two Lights State park for 2 hours and were rewarded with one of the nicest Maine evenings so far this year, with a pink and yellow dusky misty sunset. Yes please. Their wedding is going to be soooo cute and Maine-y, we can already tell.

Simsbury Connecticut Engagement Session: Erin and Tommy

We have known Erin since our first season as Bethany and Dan Photography! We photographed her sister’s wedding in 2012 and have been connected with this family ever since. We were over the moon for her when she met Tommy, who from all accounts including our own, is a total treat. Being asked to be a part of two weddings in the same family is always a high high honor and we literally could NOT be more excited for their upcoming wedding.

Erin’s grandmother lived in Simsbury, and she wanted to have the session in this town where she and Tommy have so many sweet memories. They even had their first “day-date” at Rosedale Farms Vineyard, one of the locations in this session. After a hike up to the top of a nearby overlook we geeked out about the dreamy light and views we had for the end of the sessions. All in all, a great Wednesday evening dont you think?

New York City Engagement Session: Nicole and Jeff

Life is funny… in a good good way. I have known Nicole since 2010, having met her when she was the bridesmaid at this wedding. Then, years later, we started working with her for events, photographing the likes of John Legend, One Republic, Jewel and more. When she and Jeff got engaged not to long ago, we waited with bated breath hoping they would ask us to be a part of their wedding. Thankfully the text/call/email came through and we are going to be there for thier New York wedding. Yassssssss…….

We decided to try something a little different with them since we felt like if anyone was down, it would be these two. Instead of our regular “two-hours-prior-to-sunset” setup we always do, we instead did half the session before and then half the session after the sunset. This meant more work with Off Camera Lighting and environmental lighting… and WE LOVED IT! Thanks Nicole and Jeff for being open to our ideas and for being so so so very in love.
