Acadia Engagement Session: Peter and Peyton

Sometimes everything comes together.

Dan and I photographed Jo and Carl’s wedding the day before Peter and Peyton’s engagement session and we were in Acadia for the second day of beautiful National Park photographing. Woot Woot! How lucky are we though… honestly?

When Peter and Peyton got out of the car I was already stoked seeing how CUTE they styled themselves for the session. That red dress and those teal pants though… yes yes yes! We met them at a new favorite Acadia Beach that Jo and Carl introduced us to. The weather was moody and we were feeling those Maine vibes. The bummer though was that we knew that Peyton really really really wanted sun and Maine was not delivering. After the beach, we headed to up the top of Cadillac for the second half of the session. As we drove the sun came out in perfect time and we had ourselves one of the most gorgeous sunsets we have ever witnessed to photograph them in. We were all over the moon and it was SO SO much fun!

Bar Harbor Wedding: Jo and Carl

Some weddings stick with you and Jo and Carl’s Bar Harbor wedding is one of them! It was just such a beautiful pairing between rustic Maine nature and glamorous vibes. We actually started the day with a hike up to the top of North Bubble in Acadia. There Jo and Carl had their first look. It was a dream come true for Carl so it had to be done just that way. I’m so glad we did.

After the EPIC first look, we went to a few other places along the Park Loop Rd for more photos, then headed back to the Bar Harbor Club for the wedding. Their vows were both so thoughtfully written. It helped me see into their relationship a little more. They got me stoked for their marriage almost as much as their friends and family I betcha!

The reception was beautifully designed and set the scene for touching toasts, sweet first dances, and a rocking party. Jo even changed into a red party dress to pay homage to her Chinese heritage and maybe even being a little good luck… not like they need it though.

Acadia Elopement: Gina and Ryan

Gina and Ryan actually pulled off a true elopement… as in… it was a SECRET! I felt like such an insider, knowing for months that this was going to happen. Remember their engagement session in the summer? I had to be careful in writing the blog post and in everything I said on social media too about these two. It was so hard because I was so excited about the wedding, knowing it was going to be beautiful. I was right about that.

We met them at the hotel and then took a limo ride up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. We met Jenn there, the officiant, and headed into the mist for their mountaintop ceremony. I’ll never get over how fast a wedding ceremony happens and couples go from engaged to married in the blink of an eye. Before we knew it, it was portrait time! These are some of our favorite portraits from the whole year. I can’t quite put my finger on it exactly but a lot of things came together all on one day for some really cool photos. Being a part of weddings like this will always be one of the biggest honors, because we are there as proxy! Everyone who loves and cares about them isn’t there, so the only way they can see the event is through our eyes. Being the storyteller for elopements takes on an even greater meaning in that context and we wont ever take that role lightly. Thank you for Gina and Ryan for trusting us in that way.

Bar Harbor Maine Elopement: Andarla and Tim

Andarla and Tim disembarked from a cruise ship, checked into a tiny Inn, and got ready for their wedding, just a few short hours after they got on land. We met them at the Inn and photographed a few final touches of their wedding look, and we all walked to the lawn of another Inn, for their intimate ceremony. I don’t have the eloquence to say it how Erika, the officiant, said it, but it was an outward ceremony of what had been in their hearts for a long time before this day. Tears and hugs and kisses were intermittently mixed with kind words, loving letters from friends who were not present, and vows for forever. Wedding ceremonies can be afterthoughts, but not with these two. I will always remember just how special it was.

We whisked them away to a secret spot in Acadia and photographed them as fast as we possibly could since they had a dinner date, a trolly tour, and a boat to catch, all in a short window of time. Even in all the bustle, they invited us to have dinner alongside them with their family. It humbles me to this day, how welcoming these two are. What a day to be a wedding photographer…

Asticou Inn, Northeast Harbor Maine Wedding: Sophia and Tim

Every year you have THAT wedding… the one that you anticipate every since the first email, and the experience of it never leaves you, even years later. Looking back on our years as wedding photographers, there are always a few that stand out BIG TIME. Sophia and Tim’s Northeast Harbor wedding was one of those…

Just imagine it… a first look at his parents getaway place, overlooking the harbor. A ceremony with flower petals raining down. A reception with #moodgoals for days. Portraits in a garden. And of course… a dance party with wild and crazy groomsmen. It was all of that and more. O yeah… and they men wore tuxes, which will never ever not be my favorite.
