Millinocket Maine Wedding: Rebecca and Tristan

We were shocked when Rebecca talked to us for only a few minutes, asked hardly any questions, and was ready to book us for her wedding to Tristan. This woman knows what she wants! We headed up to the wilds of Maine, away from the ocean, which is a rare thing for us. After having a tiny picnic lunch in Baxter State Park before the weddings, Dan and I were super excited for this lakeside wedding, knowing the vibe of the day was already looking great.

They both got ready in a cabin on-site and were all in on a windy rainy first look. Another good sign in our books. A ceremony with an iconic Maine backdrop, complete with a group beer/wine cheers during the ceremony itself. Are you seeing the signs now too? The night finished out with drinks, dinner, and dancing and…. a frikin’ rainbow.

Don’t rainbows count as good signs? Yeah, I’m pretty sure they do.

Waterboro Maine Wedding: Julia and Ryan

We had only talked on the phone with Julia and Ryan, never having met them in person. Although that happens to us every once and awhile, we always have a tiny worry in the back of our heads that we just don’t really know who we are about to meet. Within moments of arriving though Julia bounded out of the house with a huge smile, a hug and an entourage of friends. We knew were in for a good day.

Julia and Ryan got married in her family’s lakeside cabin that had been in her family for generations. She wore a generational gown and her veil had extremely important vintage family lace on it. A family member had also done all the tailoring for her so the dress was beyond precious. That being said, she was far from fussy about it, rocking that dress in the rain like a champ!

Did I mention it rained. Right after the gorgeous ceremony, the rain started and kept up almost all night. It was kinda perfect timing actually. We all ran into the tent and enjoyed food that I won’t soon forget. Not only did they hire the ever delicious Fire and Company for the meal, but her family also made home-made sushi in the cabin kitchen. I ate more than my fair share of that because when else do you get home-made sushi at a wedding? You tell me!

We loved being a party of this wedding. It was just our cuppa tea.

Outlook Farm Maine Wedding: Kate and Mike

Not to sound like we were walking in the room with a judgement, but we really did know what we were walking in to with these two. We knew it was going to be a rocking party with good friends. It was a sure bet. We have photographed a two other weddings from this friend group and there were both incredible parties, (See Kelsey and Chad AND Sara and Dave). I remember walking up to the DJ and saying… “Get Ready.” Ha!

The couple got ready in Portsmouth NH and then headed to the church for the ceremony. I loved watching them giggle and make eyes with each other throughout the ceremony. Catholic ceremonies are ripe with incognito cuteness. After the recessional, we headed to the reception. Once the wedding party and Kate and Mike we introduced, the party began and didnt stop even after the venue lights went up after the last song. It was exactly what we thought would happen and that made us very happy.

Pittsfield Maine Wedding: Abigail and Noel

Writing about this wedding is hard for me because I honestly feel like these two had one of the most perfect love focused weddings we have ever been too… most especially in the execution of the ceremony itself. Oftentimes, in our generation, the ceremony seems to fall to the background with the planning and the sentiment is almost “Let’s get this over with to so we can PARTY.” I get that to some extent but having witnessed this ceremony of pure love it made me fall in love with ceremonies all over again!

After getting ready and hanging out together, Abigail and Noel greeted their guests for a pre-ceremony cocktail hour. Since the weather was a bit wet most of the morning, they just played the ceremony time by ear. Once the rain broke, everyone walked over to the area where the ceremony was going to take place, formed an aisle, and Abigail and Noel walked down the aisle together, holding hands. All through out the ceremony they laughed, cried, and jumped the gun on the first kiss at least a dozen times, which I absolutely loved! So much kissing! Once it was official, everyone cheered and hugged and the party continued from before… into the night.

The reception was SO COLORFUL and every place setting had a set of sparklers alongside the silverware. Lobster Rolls, Fried Chicken, Cornbread and delicious treats were served while heartfelt toasts with Ani Difranco quotes filled the air. A fireworks show right before the dancing started, set just the right mood for the rest of the night. It was a P-A-R-T-Y and we were lucky to be there.

Abbi and Tanner’s Maine Woods Portrait Session

There is so much I can say about these people, this place, and this type of session. Let me first set the scene for you.

Mainer’s often have a “camp” up in the woods where they get away. It’s akin to the southern beach house in reason while being extremely different in feel. They are usually a secret, as far as the location. They range from super rustic, so not quite as rustic, but they all are a quiet place where you can just relax and be with the people you let in your circle. When Mainers head to this camp they simply say they are heading “uptacamp.” Tanner and Abbi’s camp is their families camp and it is without question, a secret spot. I won’t tell you where it is or what it’s near but let me say only that it just what you may imagine. Theres a wood stove, gas-powered everything except a generator for a few must haves, lots of comfy places to sit and even more places to sleep, a table for playing cards, a big ole table for eating delicious food, an amazing view, a great porch, a couple of four wheelers, and dogs roam free.

We photographed Abbi and Tanner’s wedding this past July, and they wanted to wait until afterwards to have their version of an engagement session. Less chaos, more fun. We loved that idea, and were seriously blown away when they invited us uptacamp with them for the session. They were the BEST of hosts, both cooking gourmet meals for us and later mixing one too many drinks. We stayed up late and drank both tequila drinks and whiskey drinks until we all needed to get some shut eye. It’s people like this and sessions like this that remind us that we really do have one of the best jobs in the world.
