Lori and Joe’s Newport Rhode Island Wedding at the Oceancliff

If you want to have perfect weather for your wedding, you should ask Lori what she prayed for specifically, because I don’t think a more perfect weather day exists. From the ceremony to the sailing trip, the day was exactly as one would dream of. First we started the day off in a beautiful house that Lori ordered up just for lovely photos, which I love. Next we headed to the Ocean Cliff where the two were married overlooking the ocean. Lori came down the aisle laughing, in her unforgettable way and they both read their vows from an Apple device: Joe had an iPad and Lori had her iPhone. The clouds came over the ceremony and created great light and just as they kissed, the clouds moved and it was bright again. It was a photography miracle. If you are a photographer yourself, you will understand. Thanks God!

The reception had some funny moments and even a group line dance to Steve Earle’s “Copperhead Road.” Joe cried during the first dance, and so did his mom during hers. It was like mother like son. After the reception a few of the guests headed over to the harbor where we boarded a sailing ship and enjoyed a sunset cruise to close out the night. The sunset was stunning… as it always is and we even passed the Ocean Cliff on our trip. We had been looking forward to this wedding all year and it did not disappoint.

Pat and Amanda’s Sugarbush VT Wedding

Pat and Amanda… the couple we were late to their 6:00am engagement session for… sigh. Answering the phone that morning in my pajamas sent my blood to run cold. We felt so bad we believed they would hate us forever. On the contrary, Pat and Amanda are gracious, forgiving, and just too in love to worry about that kind of thing. I can assure you were were there the night BEFORE their wedding.

God was blessing this day with some sprinkles and best of all, a majestic overcast sky. It was was ridiculously beautiful in Vermont that weekend, and it was hard not to believe it was that way just for the wedding of Pat and Amanda. As you will see, the landscape was over the top lovely and the couple was rivaling that with their looks. Despite a hot church with no a/c, the ceremony was respectful and beautiful. We went up to the top of a mountain for the portraits and it was worth the drive, let me tell you. Afterwards we all headed to their reception at the Sugarbush Resort, where we danced the night away.

Lisa and Suzy’s Portsmouth NH Wedding

Lisa and Suzy were married July 28, 2012… almost twenty years after they began their relationship. They are officially the couple who has been together the longest that we have had the honor of photographing a wedding for. It was one of the most heartfelt yet relaxed weddings that we have been to. They got ready together, and then walked hand in hand to their ceremony at the Moffatt-Ladd House & Gardens. During the vow exchange, Suzy cracked a joke that had everyone in the place laughing and then as the ceremony progressed, they had everyone crying tears of joy. It was a momentous ceremony, since they were only able to marry legally very recently. After a receiving line filled with hugs and tears, Lisa and Suzy headed up to their cocktail hour and reception at The 100 Club. It was classy, fun, and seemed to be a room filled with people who all love one another. I hope we were able to fulfill their only photography request, “We would like the candid photos to reflect the best party we ever threw!” Well done Lisa and Suzy!

Amber and Mark’s Boothbay Harbor Maine Wedding

After a ridiculously beautiful Rehearsal Dinner, Amber and Mark’s wedding guests woke up to a forecast of rain and high winds. The couple had already moved to their “Plan C” since “Plan A” was outside on a deck and “Plan B” was under a tent, both of which would not work in that weather. You would expect Amber and Mark to be a bit disappointed, which they were, however…. they were not showing it. We walked into rooms with happy attendants and happy Amber and Mark. It was a testament to the fact that the wedding, for them, was not about anything other than marrying one another. In spite of the weather, there was a lot of opportunity to have fun with the photos too! Who would have thought that umbrellas were so photogenic? The Spruce Point Inn was in action with making “Plan C” lovely, and everyone was able to not only hear the couple say their vows in comfortable pretty chairs, but no one was getting rained on or blown out of their seats.

After the ceremony everyone went to the Pemaquid Room and signed this adventurous couples guestbook, which was a stack of postcards that they wanted everyone to write a note to them on. We loved the idea! The speeches were touching, the cake was delicious and by the end of the night, dancers young and old were fist-pumping on the dance floor.

Dane and Michelle’s Virginia Beach VA Wedding

It was slightly overcast and breezy outside the day of Dane and Michelle’s Virginia Beach wedding. The weather said it was going to rain. As Michelle got ready, I heard almost no mention of the impending rain but rather casual chat and comfort among friends and family. Michelle seemed completely unphased by the fact that their wedding may be a rainy event. It was clear that her sole focus for this day was to marry Dane. During the first look it was impossible to keep a dry eye. It was just so sweet to see how excited Dane was to see his bride! Dane and Michelle have been together over seven years and that history created such a comfortable environment. They just knew each other so well that this felt like a celebration of something that everyone involved felt sure of. It felt like it was meant to be without question. Michelle is Dane’s girl… and there is no doubt about it. The way he looks at her was enough to make me cry sitting at home editing these photos! That is how intense and honest this love story is. It rained, and it cleared up, and most importantly of all the weather had no effect on their day. It was… perfect.
