Portland Maine Wedding: Brittany and Raven

On the second to last day of the year, Brittany and Raven got married! They are actually North Carolina folks like us, but they decided to head alllll the way up to Maine for their wedding ceremony. Raven is actually from Maine so that’s the connection in case you were wondering. The day they got married was absolutely FREEZING here in Maine so they sure got the wintery wedding they were hoping for. The best part though is that even though it was frigid, they still got married outside! #goals

After the tiny ceremony, the four of us went to a secret spot in Portland for a few quick portraits with them. It was almost unbearable outside so props to them both for sticking with it and making those last few minutes of sunshine work. Brittany even took her coat off for a few photos so let’s all give her a round of applause because it was around 10°F. No joke. We scrambled back inside for the reception and I cannot TELL you how good that heat felt.

Brooklyn NY Wedding: Lynsey and Elwood

Another wonderful wedding weekend in New York City for us! Can you pinch me next time you see me because it’s incredible that we get invited into these weddings that are held in such rad places.  Lynsey and Elwood’s wedding was the final wedding of our proper wedding season of 2017 and it was SUCH a good finale. (We have a couple curtain calls with 4 more weddings in the year that you’ll see on the blog soon but Lynsey and Elwood were the exclamation point to the end of our main season).

They both got ready in the hotel where everyone was staying, guests and photographer included, then everyone took a bus over to Prospect Park. It was the weekend of Halloween so the park was buzzing with kids dresses up for the holiday, which added a little quirk to the day, in the best way. The couple had their first look on the bridge overlooking the venue, the Prospect Park Boathouse. The boathouse had been in the news this season for a nightmare vanishing caterer, that Lynsey and Elwood had to personally workaround for their own wedding. Watch this news clip. Poor things right? Thankfully Bon Soir swooped in to save the day and everyone was fed and happy. I’m getting ahead of myself here though… first look. Amid all the costumed supermans, and Minnie mouses, they had their first look. It was so cute and I’ll never forget how stinkin’ happy Elwood was to see Lynsey. Not long after, they had their ceremony, as the sun set on NYC. Of course, there was dancing, cake, and music… but there was also a cigar rolling station, a gift from Lynsey to Elwood. I’m so glad we were there. Thanks Kate and Em for hooking us all up!!!

Uxbridge Massachusetts Wedding: Charlotte and Derek

Charlotte had her heart set on pretty fall colors and she got them! It was beautiful on Charlotte and Derek’s wedding day, with all the look of fall without too much of the cold. Juuuuust right. Charlotte is friends with one of our past couples, Nick and Devon. It was so sweet to see them both again at her wedding, Nick even being one of the wedding party. We had never met Derek but watching him watch her during the ceremony melted our hearts full stop. He could not stop staring at her and smiling. What’s not to love about that?

After the ceremony, we all hopped in a golf cart and were chauffeured around the outer reaches of the golf course. Since it was the end of the season, we got to go on the grounds in places that you normally cant. That and Charlotte spoke up, holding them to their promise of letting her use the ENTIRE grounds for photos. Yasss queen! We got her red leaves and Derek was a good sport the whole time, despite photos not being his favorite way to pass the time. Not to mention, as soon as we were done with the photos, we all got to go to the barn and have a super fun party. That’s always a nice reward for making it through the portraits. (We could take them all day but not everyone is QUITE so enthusiastic about it. We get it.)

Acadia Elopement: Gina and Ryan

Gina and Ryan actually pulled off a true elopement… as in… it was a SECRET! I felt like such an insider, knowing for months that this was going to happen. Remember their engagement session in the summer? I had to be careful in writing the blog post and in everything I said on social media too about these two. It was so hard because I was so excited about the wedding, knowing it was going to be beautiful. I was right about that.

We met them at the hotel and then took a limo ride up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain. We met Jenn there, the officiant, and headed into the mist for their mountaintop ceremony. I’ll never get over how fast a wedding ceremony happens and couples go from engaged to married in the blink of an eye. Before we knew it, it was portrait time! These are some of our favorite portraits from the whole year. I can’t quite put my finger on it exactly but a lot of things came together all on one day for some really cool photos. Being a part of weddings like this will always be one of the biggest honors, because we are there as proxy! Everyone who loves and cares about them isn’t there, so the only way they can see the event is through our eyes. Being the storyteller for elopements takes on an even greater meaning in that context and we wont ever take that role lightly. Thank you for Gina and Ryan for trusting us in that way.

Bar Harbor Maine Elopement: Andarla and Tim

Andarla and Tim disembarked from a cruise ship, checked into a tiny Inn, and got ready for their wedding, just a few short hours after they got on land. We met them at the Inn and photographed a few final touches of their wedding look, and we all walked to the lawn of another Inn, for their intimate ceremony. I don’t have the eloquence to say it how Erika, the officiant, said it, but it was an outward ceremony of what had been in their hearts for a long time before this day. Tears and hugs and kisses were intermittently mixed with kind words, loving letters from friends who were not present, and vows for forever. Wedding ceremonies can be afterthoughts, but not with these two. I will always remember just how special it was.

We whisked them away to a secret spot in Acadia and photographed them as fast as we possibly could since they had a dinner date, a trolly tour, and a boat to catch, all in a short window of time. Even in all the bustle, they invited us to have dinner alongside them with their family. It humbles me to this day, how welcoming these two are. What a day to be a wedding photographer…
